Pleasantly surprised on the versatility of Das Kraftwerkkleid. Due to the mesh inner shell, was able to make another impromptu outfit out of it. Used a silver skirt for the outside and layered a black mesh net top with skull printing atop the el wire mesh.

It’s so hard to photograph el wire without the right camera settings. Not for the point and shoot.

I had to solder the broken wires on both inverters before going out. Didn’t have the right heat shrink so resorted to electrical tape. Also brought some in my lunchbox just in case – learned in Maker Faire Austin to bring something to repair with. During the night the 9 volt lead broke again and removed the outer silver skirt. But my friend’s coworker (THANK YOU!) helped me out by wirestripping it. I’m so used to gadgets and gear I forget how to be practical at times. But then I also have a tooth chip so I guess I don’t think about using them choppers. I’ll need to assemble a portable sewing repair kit and a portable electrical repair kit. Another friend of Delish (the guy in the photos) also had el wire in his costume and we discussed the construction of his metal bionic arm. I thought he used a heavier gauge of el wire but actually he bought clear vinyl tubing and put the el wire in it for durability. Good idea, I’ll probably do that too to increase the durability in my el wire too.

Unfortunately a bit too late, despite wardrobe failure at Jun Bar, the skirt was repaired and it was glowing on route to Neo. Danced to a favorite Meat Beat Manifesto song but later I was sitting down, I smelled something funny. The skirt was glowing less but it seemed to be on, or perhaps it was the blacklight fooling me. Was thinking, “I hope that was not what I think it is.” But alas it’s true while checking the inverter. It was exceptionally warm and it was smelling weird in that bad electronics way and I quickly disconnected everything.

Haven’t checked everything out but will resolder everything and see how it goes. If the inverter really failed, will open it up and investigate further.
