Artist Statement
My name is Corinna Anni Roc (pseudonym) and I am a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and craftsman.
In other words, “jill-of-all-trades” in the fields of art, design, and craft. I have studied and worked with many mediums of art not necessarily out of indecision but out of exploration, the love of it, and making connections in-between them. Within my realm, the idea of choosing only one field compares to the idea of a mother choosing which amongst her children the one that she loves most, it simply cannot be done. There are enough specialists that are solely dedicated to their craft, I’m an artisan that is dedicated to numerous crafts. While it is true I will not be the grand master of any one particular field, it’s mastery enough to tackle multiple disciplines at once. It is a hard process but sometimes one cannot help who they are.
Currently, I have numerous projects and ideas in the works, these range everything from handmade crafts for trade fairs to photo documentation of demolished architecture. However, a more overarching idea of my work is as follows.
I have my own private artwork that is a private sanctuary where it acts as a catharsis to my state of being. Despite numerous hardships, art is a consoling force in my life that helps me heal from harsh experiences. I do not display it often nor sell it due to fears of judgment, criticism and its personal nature.
To counteract this grim process I have a tendency to gravitate towards entertainment & popular culture as an external form of solace. So sometimes I create work that is based on album art, music videos, cartoon shows, comics, games, etc. I fabricate these items because I will not see them on store shelves. Despite the whimsical nature of this craft, it does serve a practical purpose of self-education which is rewarding because the techniques learned can be applied to future projects.
Aside from these personal projects. I am happy to utilize my diverse set of skills to assist others realize their creative vision. The road from idea to finished piece is such an exciting process. It isn’t an easy road but the results are satisfying.
